Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy is about coming back into a relationship with your body - gently, at your own pace. It’s a way of exploring how past experiences and emotions are held, not just in the mind, but in the body and nervous system too.

It’s especially helpful for people living with trauma, cPTSD, anxiety, or anyone who feels disconnected from themselves. This work isn’t about digging things up forcefully - it is about creating enough safety to listen to what the body’s been trying to say all along.

In somatic sessions, we use a blend of techniques depending on what feels right for you, such as:

  • Bilateral stimulation – This might look like tapping or meditative movements that engage both sides of the body to support nervous system regulation. It helps the brain and body process stored experiences, using imagination and gentle visualisation to access the subconscious.

  • Parts work – We explore the “parts” of you that developed over time to protect and guide you - like the inner critic, the inner child, or the overachiever. Through guided visualisation, we get to know and understand these parts with compassion and help them understand how they are holding us back.

  • Body scanning – Slow, mindful check-ins with your body. We explore physical sensations - tension, temperature, colour, texture - and give space to what’s been stored there. It’s a way of inviting emotion and memory to rise gently to the surface.

  • Trauma-informed counselling – Talking is woven into alongside the body work. Naming what we’re feeling, remembering, or noticing helps the nervous system integrate and feel heard - not just intellectually, but somatically.

  • Movement and breath – Gentle movements and breath awareness help reconnect you to your body, create safety in the present moment, and support emotional release in a way that doesn’t overwhelm the system.

  • Nervous system education – Understanding what’s happening in your body is empowering. I’ll share simple, science-backed ways to recognise survival responses like fight, flight, freeze, and fawn and support you to learn to regulate yourself through them.

This work is gentle but powerful. It’s about creating space to meet yourself with curiosity rather than fear and starting to feel safe in your own skin again.
